Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 announced for this Fall

CI Games has unveiled the next entry into their long-range sniping franchise Sniper Ghost Warrior. With Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 we are getting a sequel to last year’s first Contracts, again aiming for a release this fall season for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Despite the game being announced, details are very slim at the moment. We basically only know the name of the game, the release window, and target platforms. But this alone is enough to postulate rough details about Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. For one, since it follows the Contracts title, we’re most likely seeing the continuation of a mission-based game structure.

2017’s Ghost Warrior 3 famously tried to take the series into the open-world setting with pretty abysmal results. Last year’s Contracts managed to bring back the series on its rails thankfully. That’s probably why we’re getting a direct sequel just one year later.

Another tidbit we gather from today’s game announcement that is quite baffling is the fact that Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is targeting to release only for the current-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, alongside PC. That’s a rather weird decision by CI Games, to only cater to current-gen systems when their game is coming out presumably right around the same time as Sony’s and Microsoft’s highly-anticipated next-gen systems.

This could obviously still change with future announcements. Then there’s, of course, the possibility that Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 will become available for existing owners on next-gen. And if push comes to shove, we already know that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will have backward compatibility, with recently-developed current-gen titles being developed with that in mind.

As it stands for now though, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is only coming for current-gen and we await further details about the title in the near future. With a projected fall release, there really isn’t that much time left to promote the game anyway.
