SOE shares last-minute survival tips for H1Z1

As you're probably aware by now, Early Access for H1Z1 starts tomorrow. After months of livestreams and previews, it's time for us to finally jump into the post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world established by SOE. But they aren't just feeding us to the corpses. In a survival guide posted today, the developer shared a few helpful tips that could mean the difference between life and death.

Some of the things, like "keeping a low profile," are pretty normal for this type of game. If you've played DayZ then you'll know that everyone and everything in H1Z1 will want you dead. SOE advises "The best way to get around and stay alive is to keep quiet." Zombies and other players are attracted to loud sounds, so be careful when chopping down a tree or starting up a car.

It's also not just zombies you need to be aware of either. The world of H1Z1 is alive and filled with wildlife. In addition to the threat of zombies and other human survivors, you'll find bears and wolves that are equally as deadly. And remember, be careful who you trust. Like you, other people you encounter are trying to survive — even if that means killing you and taking your things.

Crafting is also key to your survival. In H1Z1, you'll craft through experimentation. The game features a discovery system that will see you combining different materials until you make something. You can craft something as simple as a bandage and progress to things like full structures. These structures, in turn, can become your home and provide you with a sort of safe haven. But be careful, SOE warns, as having a home may attract bandits and looters. So build your home, but remember to protect it.

And lastly, the key to survival in H1Z1 is remembering what phase of development it's currently in. As an Early Access, SOE urges players to expect "unforeseen consequences."

"Game crashes and bugs are just a part of life in Early Access," SOE says. "When things do go wrong, rest assured that a team of highly skill people are working on the problem and will get things up and running as soon as zombily possible."

Now that you've got some survival tips, be sure to check out 6 other important things you need to know before jumping into H1Z1's Early Access tomorrow.
