SOE to support PlanetSide 2 for ‘hopefully 20 years’

In a recent Reddit AMA with Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley, a fan asked how long PlanetSide 2 will continue to be supported by the company — a fair question given the studio's decision to shut down four of its MMOs by the end of this year.

"Hopefully 20 years," Smedley reassured PS2 players. That's a good answer considering SOE has plans of bringing PlanetSide 2 to the PlayStation 4 sometime this year.

Explaining the company's decision to shut down certain games, Smedley continued: "We're consolidating our franchises so we can support the titles we want to be there for the long haul. That's why we did this."

Unfortunately, we still don't know when PlanetSide 2 will arrive on PS4. We last heard it would launch some time in "early 2014." Now early can mean something different to everyone, but I would expect a spring 2014 release — maybe March or April. When pressed for confirmation regarding that window, Smedley responded on Twitter: "We aren't ready to talk dates yet."

On the bright side, at least we know the game will be supported for a long time to come.
