The recent controversy between Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has been a point of interest since its release, but regardless if you liked it or not, Ben Affleck came through as Batman.
Rumors started last year that Affleck would direct & star as Batman in three standalone films after Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the subsequent Justice League film. This information has yet to be confirmed, but Warner Bros did push back the release of two of his non-superhero films.
And with a recent interview between The Hollywood Reporter (via Slashfilm) and Patrick Whitesell and Ari Emanuel — co-CEOs of WME-IMG and Affleck’s longtime agents, we now have a little more information on the film.
He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so, at least, three times wearing the cape … There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.
Apparently, the first draft of the script has been already written by Affleck himself with the help of DC comics legend Geoff Johns. No detail on what the plot would be about, but it would be interesting to see Affleck and Johns tackle a different Batman villain like Killer Croc or Man-Bat.
According to sources, Warner Bros. was "so taken with Affleck's interpretation" that they couldn't help themselves and requested a trilogy. If this is the case, the timeline for the film's has Affleck as Batman for the long haul. In 2016, he will reveal his portrayal of our caped vigilante in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (with a dip into Suicide Squad), in 2017 he will join the Justice League and the first standalone film is said to be coming in late 2018. That's four Batfleck films over the next three years — plus the two remaining standalone films that will release in (probably) 2019 and 2020.
So now that the first script is finished, who would you like to see the Batman face in a standalone film? Let us know in the comments below!
