SOMA sells over 90k copies in less than two weeks

SOMA is a great little creep show of a game. Offering up some BioShock meets 90’s isolation horror cinema, the guys that created Amnesia delivered on a game that was easy to explore and easy to get spooked playing.

That combination has proven to be a winner since the game has now officially sold 92,000 copies in its first 10 days of launch, which puts it well on its way to the goal Frictional set of 100k in the first month.

Via the official developer blog, the guys at Frictional explained, "We need to sell almost 3 times that amount to do [recoup our total costs]," the post reads. "But given that it took us 5 years to make the project, there's no immediate stress to do so. One of the great things about funding SOMA 100% ourselves is that all money earned goes into our own pockets and is directly used to fund our upcoming projects. So we are under no pressure to recoup immediately so long as we get enough to keep going—which we certainly have now."

This is great news not only for independent studios and their fans, but also a good jumping off point for similar stuff to start coming down the pipeline. Their post continues by saying “The money that we’ve got from this will pretty much pay our company expenses for another 2 years.” You can check out our SOMA review right here.
