If you were one of the people who managed to snag a SNES Classic on Amazon in the wee hours of the night, you may want to check your email. Many customers who pre-ordered the sought after retro throwback console produced by Nintendo on the online retailer have claimed they have gotten an email stating their order will not arrive on the September 29th release date.
"We recently learned that we may miss your delivery promise and apologize for the inconvenience," the message reads. "You will still receive your order of Super NES Classic. We are working hard to ensure you get this item as soon as it is in stock. You can track the status of, or make any changes to, your order under Your Orders on Amazon.com."
It's unclear if Amazon put up too many for sale and have to wait for a new shipment or if there's some other error but it certainly doesn't make the company look great. Amazon was already scrutinized for posting pre-orders for the console very late at night with no notice along with Best Buy instead of waiting until the afternoon like Target and GameStop.
Walmart was under fire recently for posting pre-orders way before they had any stock. Thousands of customers flooded their website to grab one and those who managed to nab one were met with a cancellation email shortly after. Many were burnt by the incident and some of those people who were quick enough to order a non-existent SNES Classic might not have been able to grab one that will actually get shipped to their house.
The SNES Classic will release on September 29th, 2017. It'll include a variety of iconic SNES games and an unreleased gem, Star Fox 2. The SNES Classic also comes with a number of cool features to make it more than just a standard emulator.
