Someone is bringing a 2D The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game to life

When Nintendo developed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, they made a 2D version of the game to help bring some of the mechanics to life – at least in concept. Nintendo showed off this 2D, but that's all we got from that version of the game – besides Breath of the Wild itself.

One developer is in the early stages of creating a 2D version of Breath of the Wild, called Breath of the NES, and it pretty much recreates the demo that Nintendo showed off. There's plenty still to be added to the game, but it's looking pretty good so far.

If you're concerned with Nintendo sending the Breath of the NES creator a cease and desist (as they have done with tons of other games), don't worry. Even if creator Winter Drake receives a notice from Nintendo, he plans on moving forward with some slight tweaks.

"When a lot of people hear about this project, they jump to worrying about a cease and desist from Nintendo,” Drake told Kotaku in an interview. "While I’m going to stay hardworking on Breath of the NES for as long as I can, if Nintendo asks me to stop using their IP, I do plan to continue development with my own original characters. I’m having way too much fun creating this world to just give up."

The fan made game may not end up being a perfectly faithful adaptation of Breath of the Wild, but it's going to have plenty of the original features and build up from there.

Breath of the NES is available for download on itchio
