Someone recreated The Empire Strikes Back trailer in the style of The Force Awakens, and it’s awesome

Proof that JJ Abrams knows how to make a trailer

There's no denying The Empire Strikes Back is a timeless classic. But would it have experienced the same success today with the original trailer put out in 1979? For as timeless as the story is, a lot rides on the hype a trailer can manufacture. Industry standards have changed and one need only compare the 1979 version with a fanmade version created in the style of J.J. Abrams' most recent trailer for The Force Awakens. Pretty amazing how the shots lend themselves perfectly to Abrams' version.

There's a few takeaways from this. One, The Empire Strikes Back is an amazing movie that still holds up today. Two, Abrams has created a trailer in which the format can make anything look like a modern blockbuster. Or three, Star Wars: The Force Awakens won't be a total disappointment as the epicness of the latest trailer is on part with that of The Empire Strikes Back when created in the same fashion.

For as awesome as the trailer above is, there's still something charming about that 1979 version that a modern version just can't seem to replicate.
