Rick and Morty fans have taken one story arch from the show and run with it and luckily it wasn't the one about doors that lead to nowhere – that would get annoying fast. Fans of the show have created a deep-seated need for Szechuan Sauce, not just any Szechuan Sauce, but the discontinued Szechuan Sauce from McDonald's.
McDonald's already brought the sauce back for rabid fans earlier this month, but shortages and mobs have forced them to bring the sauce back in higher volumes later this year.
This horrid thirst for McDonald's Szechuan Sauce has opened up a door for scammers. One person already spent almost $15,000 on McDonald's Szechuan Sauce and now there's a string of new eBay scammers pricing the sauce at $20K.
It doesn't stop there.
One woman, Rachel Marie from Macomb, Michigan took the Szechuan Sauce pyramid scheme to a whole new level. She offered up some of her Szechuan Sauce for a collection of pins but ended up with a 2004 Volkswagen GTI instead.
It wasn't even a base model GTI.
Rachel posted her offer for a trade of sauce for pins on the Pin Nation Facebook group and had a fairly decent turn out of offers. According to The Drive, Rachel didn't expect much.
"I didn't even think I was going to get pin offers. Then he offered the car."
The man who traded his GTI for the sauce reportedly (Business Insider)said he "just needed me some friggin sauce!!"
