Sonic 4: Episode II launches May 15

The upcoming entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series is en route to digital game shops, and it's going to land sooner than expected. How soon is "sooner than expected"? Well, next month, actually.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II is set to drop on the PlayStation Network on May 15. The following day, May 16, it will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade. And as you may have already known, WiiWare isn't getting anything, which is kind of funny.

Episode II is also expected to hit PC and mobile devices, though dates for those platforms aren't set in stone yet. The PC and iOS versions are currently set to be announced, while Android and Windows Phone will get the game sometime in June and July, respectively.

Sega also mentioned that if you already own the first episode, you'll get Metal Sonic for free in the second game. That kind of sucks for me, because I got Episode I on WiiWare, which effectively makes my previous statement a lot less funny.

Oh yeah, and there's going to be two-player local co-op. Yay for Tails!
