True to a previous teaser, Sega announced a September release for Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice on Nintendo 3DS at its South by Southwest panel.
Originally announced in 2015, Fire and Ice is the 3DS sequel to Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. The game was originally slated to release in fall 2015, but was delayed just prior. It’s now due out September 27.
Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates his 25th anniversary this year. Sega’s SXSW panel was held in the anniversary’s honor, and was designed to offer “an inside glimpse at what fans can expect in this milestone year.”
Evidently, fans can expect more Sonic Boom, which isn’t as bad as it sounds. Although the original installment proved unplayably bad, the series has improved with age, albeit marginally. In addition, the 3DS Sonic Booms have always performed better. Even so, optimism should be managed carefully.
