Sonic Mania has appeared to be been everything classic Sonic fans have wanted. With the classic art style and gameplay being just the tip of the iceberg, Sonic Mania has even more in store. Fansite Sonic Stadium made it to the game's panel at San Diego Comic-Con to learn more.
Along with animated cutscenes similar to the old cartoons and even a vinyl soundtrack release that resembles the blue blur himself, Sega has also revealed special stages. All of Sonic Mania thus far has resembled the Mega Drive collection of games, but these new special stages where Chaos Emeralds are collected resemble the special stages in Sega CD and Saturn titles.

Players will chase a UFO to collect an emerald, building up speed and getting blue spheres in a 3D environment. Don't worry though, it's still classic sonic and seems to continue the old feel.
On top of special stages, an opening animation was revealed, showing Sonic and company in glorious 90's cartoon fashion.
It seems like Sonic Mania continues its tribute to the 90s with these reveals. We can't wait to take a trip to the past when the game releases on August 15 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Check out the Pre-Order Trailer.
