Sonic Runners servers will close on July 27

Along with its enjoyable, fast-paced gameplay, Sonic Runners has charmed fans of the franchise through a variety of special events and playable characters both current and low-key.

Unfortunately, SEGA no longer desires to keep Runners running and has announced — "with great regret," according to the in-game notification — that online services will discontinue two months from today.

In preparation for the closure, Red Star Rings can no longer be purchased, so any remaining goodies in your inventory should be used before July 27, by which point Sonic Runners will no longer be accessible.

The free-to-play title may not have been as valuable of an entry as a mainline Sonic title, yet it represented a competent approach to the endless runner genre. It's too bad the project wasn't sufficiently profitable to warrant continued support.
