One of the trailblazers of the survival genre soon gets a sequel. Sons of The Forest not only shows more of its gameplay in a new trailer, but we also learn about its release window. While broad, you can look forward to the game sometime in 2021. Enjoy the new trailer below!
The survival genre nowadays is a hugely popular one. Especially in the indie scene, where you can seemingly find a new one every week. But this hasn’t been the case for the longest time, in fact. It was only after Minecraft kickstarted survival gameplay in the mainstream over a decade ago.
What followed were numerous attempts at the formula, with several standout titles. Among these, Rust, DayZ, 7 Days to Die, and The Forest managed to win over gamers for different reasons. Some focused on emergent online gameplay while others on combat. The Forest stood out by going for a realistic art style, deep crafting system, and horror.
It was a winning formula, and the Early Access title became one of the most successful survival games with millions of copies sold. So, it was not a surprise when developer Endnight Games announced a sequel with Sons of The Forest late last year.
After pretty much exactly one year, we are now greeted with the second trailer for it. And what we see is very promising. While the first The Forest was already an impressive-looking game, Sons of The Forest significantly ups the ante. Whether it’s lighting, textures, or effects. The game looks very nice.
Add on top the return of its horror aspects, and Sons of The Forest already is a scary experience. The new lighting system in particular will make for extremely tense exploration at night and into caves.
Speaking of, we also see more of the series enemies. Cannibals. The spooky factor is already very high with more than just blood-covered cannibals. Abominations will make the Sons of The Forest a must-play for horror fans. Just like the first was.
Sons of The Forest targets 2021 for release on PC.
