Sony allegedly working on new, more powerful ‘PS4.5’ console

We all knew this was coming.

According to recent rumors, Sony is actively working on a new, more powerful version, of the PlayStation 4. While Sony refuses to "comment on rumors or speculation," a developer source in contact with Kotaku has stated that the PlayStation 4.5 is certainly in production.

The rumor suggesting that the PS4.5 is in development detailed the console to feature an upgraded GPU to support both 4K resolution and add more processing power for games that utilize the PlayStation VR headset.

The source didn't offer a price on the PS4.5 or whether is will appear any different from the current iteration of the console.

This isn't the first time that we have heard of a new iteration for the next-gen consoles. A new Xbox One has been in talks since last year. The supposed 'Xbox One Mini' was rumored to be a third of the size of the current Xbox One and much quieter.

Historically, both the PlayStation and Xbox consoles have seen various iterations over their lifetimes – a new version of either the PS4 or Xbox One shouldn't be a surprise.
