Sony Pictures is making quite a splash at CinemaCon. Chairman of Sony Picutres Entertainment Motion Picture Group (damn that's a mouthful), Tom Rothman, announced earlier today that Sony will be making a first-of-its-kind animated Spider-Man film.
Scheduled for July 20, 2018, the animated Spider-Man film will be headed by The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. They will be writing and producing the film. This animated film will exist independently — meaning they have nothing to do with the live-action Spider-Man films, including the ones with Marvel.
It's a busy time for Spidey, as he's appearing in a live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe film (Captain America 3: Civil War). After that, Sony Pictures will have a Spider-Man installment with their new, rebooted version release on July 28, 2017, produced by Marvel's Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Pascal is also producing the animated film. No word on who will be voicing the animated Spider-Man, but the live-action Spider-Man has been narrowed down to five actors.
