The new The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy will be better than the one with Tobey Maguire. There, I said it. Oh, you didn't hear that this new Spider-Man movie starring Andrew Garfield was going to be a trilogy? Well Sony announced it on their Facebook page on July 2. The official post said:
It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.
This came the day before The Amazing Spider-Man went on to take in a record $35 million in box office sales.
While director Marc Webb is not yet confirmed to be working on the sequel, I can't see Sony not making a play to keep him. The main difference between the new trilogy and the old one is the tie-in with Peter Parker's parents. His father has a tie-in to both Oscorp and him becoming Spider-Man.
By the way, the Facebook post announcing it as a trilogy has 12,046 likes… so at least they know the that number of people will see the second in the trilogy.
