Yesterday, it was reported that a movie based on Sony's driving series Gran Turismo was in development. Today, Sony confirmed the report, telling Joystiq that the Gran Turismo film is "being made." No further comment was offered.
The Social Network and Fifty Shades of Grey producers Michael de Luca and Dana Brunetti are said to be on board with the film, with Sony Pictures executives Elizabeth Cantillon, Devon Franklin, and Hannah Minghella in charge of production. Sony didn't confirm any of this, however.
Despite absolutely no concrete details about the film, the prospect of a movie based on Sony's best-selling game franchise is certainly exciting. Let's just hope Hollywood doesn't butcher it; then again, as a racing game with no plot, there's not much to really stray from. Unless they turn it into a sci-fi shooter?
