Sony Corp. has announced a delay in the release of the PlayStation 4 in China, citing "various factors" in a statement provided by the company.
The PS4 was originally set to release in China, after the country raised its ban on all gaming consoles, on January 11th. Sony's Computer Entertainment division has not yet set a new release date, but a source told Reuters that "prolonged negotiations" with Chinese authorities were "part of the reason for the delay."
The 14-year band was lifted last year, allowing both Sony and Microsoft to enter the world's third largest gaming market. Microsoft launched the Xbox One in China in September 2014. Size isn't everything, though. Despite being the third-largest gaming market, analysts believe China may be a tough market to sell to due to strict censorship rules that could prevent the sale of many popular titles
Sony plans to sell the PS4 in China for 2,899 yuan ($467). The Xbox One launched at $599, but Microsoft has since offered a price cut. Sales for the Xbox in China have not been revealed.
