Sony dropping online support for Gran Turismo 5, Resistance trilogy in 2014

Out with the old and in the new. That appears to be Sony's approach as the company revealed that 2014 will see the end of online support for Gran Turismo 5 and the Resistance trilogy on PlayStation 3.

Gran Turismo 5's online features will be disabled on May 20, 2014, while Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2 and Resistance 3 will see their online features dropped a week later on March 28, 2014. It's worth noting that this was announced on the UK PlayStation forums, but I'd expect a similar announced on the U.S. side relatively soon.

Gran Turismo was released in November 2010, but with the recent launch of Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3 it's possible that the player base has dropped to a point where it's no longer worth keeping the servers up and running.

Earlier this year, Sony announced that the servers for MAG and certain SOCOM games will also be shutdown in 2014. Those will be the first to go on January 28, 2014. And since MAG and SOCOM: Confrontation are online only, it will render the games useless.
