Sony employees respond to #PS4NoDRM Twitter campaign

Over the weekend, a rumor surfaced suggesting that the PlayStation 4 could restrict used games from being played — or at least with a restriction similar to that of the Xbox One. The rumor of anti-used game safeguards for Sony's next-gen console obviously sparked worry among PlayStation fans and gamers alike, who turned to the PS4 after Microsoft's noncommittal to fully answer questions about possible used game fees or how the Xbox One will actually handle the pre-owned market.

As a result, gamers took to social media to organize a campaign against anti-used game technology in the PS4. Inspired by NeoGAF, gamers tweeted messages tagged with "#PS4NoDRM" or "PS4USEDGAMES," to make their voices heard. And heard they were, as a few Sony employees and executives have since responded to the campaign.

"This is why I love PlayStation fans – the passion bucket overflows," said Sony's head of hardware marketing John Koller.

SCEA producer Nick Accordino added, "Humbled by the outpouring of passionate PlayStation fans and their willingness to talk to us directly. Please know that we hear you. <3"

Even Sony Worldwide Studios product boss Scott Rohde chimed in, adding, "I love passionate #PlayStation Fans!!"

Sadly, we've yet to get an official statement from Sony on the issue. Back in February, SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida did confirm the PS4 can play used games, but we don't know if the company will employ similar tactics to that of Microsoft and the Xbox One. In January, it was discovered that Sony had patented technology that could tag and track secondhand games, suggesting some form of used game DRM.

Would you still be interested in next-gen consoles if the PS4 and Xbox One both contain some form of used game restrictions?
