Sony Corp. announced they plan to offer more than 10 gaming titles during launch year of PlayStation VR. As part of an interview with Bloomberg Thursday at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said the system will be priced as a gaming unit without citing any numbers or other systems. Playstation 4 currently sells for $399 in the United States.
During Tokyo Game Show, Sony demoed 10 playable titles including a first-person robe-shooter RIGS: Machine Combat League and virtual sea diving game The Deep. Sony also demoed Final Fantasy XIV however Square Enix has confirmed there is no Final Fantasy release on PlayStation VR planned and was created exclusively for Tokyo Game Show.
“VR rewrites the rule book on how you can create games,” House said. “You’re seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it’s possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical.”
PlayStation VR is set to launch the first half of 2016. HTC plans to release their Vive headset by the end of this year and Oculus Rift is looking at the first quarter of 2016.
