Well, this is quite disappointing. Following the high of Sony officially unveiling the 1TB PlayStation 4 model, we now have confirmation that the company has no plans to release it in North America. Talk about a major letdown…
"We have no plans to announce at this time," a Sony representative told Game Informer when asked if "The Ultimate Player" Edition PS4 would release in North America.
In addition to offering twice the storage space, the new PS4 is designed to be 10 percent lighter and consume 8 percent less power than the original model. It also boasts a new matte finish, giving it a "more casual" look.
The 1TB PS4 will launch in Japan at the end of this month, before rolling out in select Europe and PAL territories from July 15th. While Sony's response doesn't completely rule out the console's North American release, it at least means we can stop waiting for an announcement today.
It's disappointing, no doubt — especially with how much space games require these days — but there are other alternative ways to expand the amount of storage space for your PlayStation 4 without having to buy a brand new console.
As fellow GameZone writer Daniel Miller pointed out to me, this is just Sony's typical plan of attack — don't announce anything yet, wait until enough people complain, and then look like heroes when they finally say yes. We're on to you Sony.
