The PlayStation 4 has had a strong run, it's had incredible games, has had a good price point from the start, substantial new hardware releases, and more. All of this has made it one of the best selling consoles ever. In December, Sony reported that they had sold 50 million consoles to consumers and now six months later, they've sold an additional 10.4 million.
As of June 11th, Sony has sold 60.4 PlayStation 4 consoles to consumers. To boast even more big numbers, Sony also reported that they've sold over 487.8 million games on PlayStation 4 with exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn leading the charge as one of the best-selling PS4 games.
As for how many people are actually playing their PlayStation, Sony reports that there are over 70 million active users on the PlayStation Network each month and users spend over 600 hours per week on the console as of March 2017.
“We are very grateful for our fans and partners around the globe who have continued to support PS4,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “The PS4 platform is in its prime, with the industry’s best lineup of exclusive and partner titles slated to release this year, taking full advantage of the power of the PS4 system. We are committed to further expanding our overall PS4 ecosystem, by broadening the PlayStation®VR content portfolio, as well as enriching our network services along with our ground-breaking software lineup. We remain steadfast in bringing the best entertainment experience to users worldwide and making PS4 the best place to play.”
It's likely the PlayStation 4 will continue to sell throughout 2017 and well into 2018. Sony's E3 presser showcased a bunch of incredible looking exclusives like Spider-Man, God of War, and Days Gone and they have exclusive DLC and marketing deals for games like Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2, all of these will more than likely contribute to more PlayStation 4 consoles being sold.
