Sony is working on a Settlers of Catan movie

The Settlers of Catan first released in 1996 as a game that brought players into the roles of settlers who are each attempting to build and develop their holdings, while acquiring (or bartering) resources to build things. The game itself doesn't have much backstory, but it does have fairly involved gameplay.

Basically, if you can't barter for resources, you're going to have a tough time playing the game.

According to Variety, Sony is looking secure the rights to adapt the board game into a film. Sony is fast-tracking the project and has already booked Daniel Lin (It, The Lego Movie), Jonathan Eirich, and Gail Katz (The Perfect Storm), as producers.

“We’re excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of Catan to life,” said Katz. “As huge fans of the game, we’re struck by the endless possibilities of stories that it could inspire. It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to work in a world beloved by millions of people, and expand its story for the screen.”

Hopefully the film is just a 60-minute dramatization of someone looking to trade wood for wheat.
