Sony: Number of affected PS4 systems is ‘within our expectations’

Apparently, there's no need to worry about getting a defective PlayStation 4 when going to pick up your next-gen console. Despite growing concern stemming from a number of sources claiming early PS4 units are breaking on them, Sony claims this is within company "expectations for a new product introduction."

In a statement given to IGN by a Sony representative acknowledged, "A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems.

"This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

"We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch."

Earlier today, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida responded to the issue, assuring PS4 owners that the company is investigating the reported issues and that it seemed to be nothing more than a few "isolated incidents."

The statement backed Yoshida's claims, adding: "There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems.

"The number of affected systems represents less than .04% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction," Sony's message concluded. Whether or not that number grows once the PS4 is released to the general public remains to be seen, but for now it doesn't seem to be too big of a concern for Sony. Or they are just really good at playing it cool.
