Sony offering PSVR in-home trial kits for select PlayStation Plus members

Last year Sony released what is arguably the cheapest premium VR headset for PlayStation 4. While not as powerful as an Oculus or HTC Vive, it is a competent piece of hardware that gives you a lot to love in the form of games like Resident Evil 7 and more. The gaming giant has been making an effort to continue investing in the technology after finding commercial success with it in 2016 and early 2017, gaining support from major publishers like Bethesda who have released the entirety of Skyrim and a version of Doom for VR.

Despite most being ultimately satisfied with their purchase, some aren't convinced and it's hard to really get an accurate experience of what it would be like to play it in your own living room when you do a 15-minute demo at the mall or GameStop. To fix this issue and sell more people on the PSVR, Sony is sending emails to select PlayStation Plus users and offering them a 14 day trial of the PSVR.

They'll send you a unit, two Move controllers, a PS Camera, a copy of Skyrim VR, and a demo disc of various VR titles so you can try the system in your home for as many hours as you want in the 14 day period. I haven't received the email personally (probably because I already own the headset) but users are reporting that they're given a unique code to redeem and must enter their credit card info. Sony then puts a $299 charge on your card and it's removed once you send it back. This is likely to prevent people from stealing the headset after the trial ends. If you want to keep it, they'll charge you $299 but if you don't want it, you'll send it back and you won't be charged.
