Sony's PlayStation 4 makes streaming gameplay via Twitch super easy. The one caveat, however, is that PS4 users are currently unable to archive their footage, meaning the only people who can see your gameplay are the ones watching it live.
Speaking to Joystiq, Sony did reaffirm its plan "to add [Twitch] livestream archiving in the future" to PS4, but the company did not provide an estimated time for when the feature would be implemented. Nor did Sony specify if the PS4's streaming quality would be improved. PS4 Twitch streams do not currently support high definition broadcasting.
"We find archiving to be an exciting part of the broadcast experience, especially since broadcasters and their viewers love to be able to revisit and share some of their most memorable moments," Twitch's VP of Marketing Matthew DiPietro told Joystiq. "It's up to our partners to determine if it's a feature set they want to offer as part of their Twitch integration, so we encourage them to keep this functionality top of mind."
The PS4's Twitch integration is undoubtedly a huge step in integrating social aspects to console gaming, but it's definitely lacking in comparison to the PC version which allows archiving for future viewing and editing.
On the brightside, the PS4 does allow you to capture, edit and share videos, but they are only shared with Facebook friends and other PS4 users.
