Sony: PlayStation Plus will have ‘prominent role’ in PS4

It doesn't look like PlayStation Plus is going anywhere as we head into the next generation of gaming. Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that the premium PlayStation Network service will play a "prominent role" in PlayStation 4.

"We’re very happy with the service that we’ve been able to offer with PS Plus," Ryan said of the service which provides subscribers with a rotating library of free games and other digital benefits. "It’s been really well received – the value is quite extraordinary and the take-up has trebled over the course of the past year."

"We definitely see that as a core part of the way forward. We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape," he concluded.

In the same interview, Ryan hinted of other "highly significant stuff yet to be announced" for the PS3, so don't get rid of your console just yet. I know the future can be exciting, but let's appreciate the present for now.
