Sony hasn't yet fired the first bullet, but they are loading the musket for the upcoming next-gen console war between them and Microsoft.
As spotted by Fusible, Sony Pictures has registered several domain names related to "Console War", fueling speculation that they could be planning a marketing video promo for the PlayStation 4. Then again, maybe they see some potential in a real film about creating consoles in the next-gen console race — maybe something similar to the great space race between the U.S. and Russia?
With the Wii U set to release later this year, and the PS4 and Xbox 720 expected to release in 2013, or 2014 at the latest, Sony could be looking to get a leg up in the upcoming battle against Microsoft. What's interesting is that the domain names were all registered by Sony Pictures Entertainment, the television and film production/distribution arm of Sony, and not Sony Computer Entertainment, the video game unit.
Below is the full list of domain names that were registered on August 23, 2012, through the brand protection company MarkMonitor.
