Sony President further comments on possibility of cross-platform play between Xbox One and PS4

Earlier this week Sony offered a comment on Microsoft's public invitation for other consoles to join them in cross-play. The comment was essentially a non-answer, words with no indication of whether or not they would be interesting in cross-play between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Recently, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has commented on Microsoft's invitation saying that the company would have to 'understand what it is' Microsoft is trying to accomplish before they commit to a firm response.

At first, Yoshida attempted to give the same run around that Sony had given earlier, that the company had been doing cross-platform play between the PC and PS4 and that it was "nothing new." When the issue was pressed, Yoshida spoke on the actual offer that Microsoft made.

“Since PC is an open platform, it’s much more straightforward, but connecting to different close networks is much more complicated, so we have to work with developers and publishers to understand what it is that they are trying to accomplish, and we have to look at the technical aspect," said Yoshida to Eurogamer.

"The technical aspect could be the easiest, but we also have to look at the policy issues and the business issues as well, so we’ll work with publishers and developers.”

Basically, Sony still hasn't answered yes or no to cross-platform play between the Xbox One and PS4, heck, they haven't even said maybe yet.
