Sony recruiting Lionhead members following studio’s closure

Sony will soon hold a recruitment event dedicated to the members of now-defunct Fable Legends developer Lionhead Studios.

The event will be held in Guildford, England, near Lionhead’s Surrey-based HQ, on Monday March, 14, the PlayStation Jobs Twitter announced. A follow-up post noted that representatives from all Sony Computer Entertainment studios will be at the event, and that prospective attendees should directly message @PlayStationJobs on Twitter for additional details.

The recruitment drive comes as a much-needed silver lining to a sobering chain of events. Just three days ago, Microsoft abruptly announced the closure of Lionhead Studios and Press Play Denmark, bringing an end to Fable Legends and Project Knoxville.

Then came the salt on the wound: Lionhead employees only learned of the studio’s closure when Microsoft announced it publicly.

In the announcement, Hanno Lemke, general manager of Microsoft Studios Europe, said Microsoft would aid laid-off staff in their search for new positions.

“We are committed to working closely with those affected by today’s news to find them new opportunities at Xbox,” Lemke said, “or partnering with the broader development community to help place them in jobs elsewhere in the games industry should they desire.”

Clearly, Sony is also interested in harvesting Lionhead’s talent.
