Sony responds to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s blocked Share Play on PS4

Responding to outcry over the discovery that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare doesn't allow Share Play on PS4, Sony has issued a response attempting to clarify the situation. Basically, the blame is on Activision who, for some reason, opted to disable the feature.

"Share Play is a system level feature enabled by System Software Update 2.0 making it available for all PS4 titles, however the option is available to developers to disable the feature according to what they feel will best benefit the consumer experience," a Sony representative told GameSpot.

For those unfamiliar, Share Play is a new feature for the PlayStation 4 — enabled with update 2.0 — that allows any PS Plus member to invite a friend, anywhere, to take turns playing any games with them, or invite another PS Plus member to play together in the same session cooperatively or competitively — regardless of whether or not they own the game. When attempting Share Play on Advanced Warfare, players are met with a message that reads: "The host's game screen is not displayed because the current scene is a blocked scene for Share Play. Wait until the blocked scene is finished."

Now that we know for certain that it was Activision's decision to block Share Play, we've reached out to them for comment as to why they would decide to disable this feature. You'd think for a game that emphasizes multiplayer, they'd want players to invite friends and possibly encourage more sales.
