Last week, in announcing that more than 2.1 million PS4 consoles being sold since launch, Sony also revealed the system's "Share" feature has been used more than 6.5 million times. Today, the company elaborated on its new social sharing feature, adding that there have been nearly 800,000 gameplay broadcasts and more than 7.1 million spectate sessions via Twitch and Ustream. That's more than 20 million minutes of live gameplay streamed from PS4 systems across the globe, Sony confirmed.
“PlayStation 4 is specifically designed so people can share their gaming experiences and interest in streaming live gameplay has surpassed our wildest expectations,” Sony President Shuhei Yoshida said.
“We’re very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system and we look forward to seeing how PlayStation gamers advance social gaming in the coming years.”
Sharing a few more fun stats, Sony revealed that each PS4 broadcast on Ustream lasts "for an average of 31 minutes." On Twitch, PS4 streams account for "10% of all content broadcast via its platform since November 15th." And lastly, PS4's Share Menu has been accessed 10.9 million times since launch.
I thin it's safe to say Sony made the right decision when choosing to emphasize social features and gameplay sharing with the PS4. Now get me the ability to archive my Twitch footage and upload to YouTube!
