Sony's virtual reality headset, Morpheus is set to release sometime before July in 2016 and they still have yet to reveal a price. When asked about a price in July they deferred saying it was too soon and that they still had work to do.
"It's not like we are waiting for Oculus to announce their price," Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida explained. "We still have work to do to know exactly the cost of goods and so on."
It looks like they have a price now, because Dennis Castleman, the hardware R&D engineer at Sony has revealed that the headset is complete.
"In our case the HMD hardware is ready to go, we're just waiting for the game titles to catch up with the hardware."
The first half of Castleman's statement is great, the second half however is not so great. The hardware is ready to go, they just need games to use it with. This waiting for games to catch up can bring an entirely unpleasant thought to mind… What if Sony holds off on the release of the Morpheus until later in 2016, like Fall, in order to have a decent game lineup for the device? It's entirely possible and it would give them time to tweak the product, but it means more waiting!
