Sony Says Gamers Will Want a Vita

Do you consider yourself a person who cares about video games? If so, you better start saving up those dollars, because Sony has stated that people who truly like games are going to want to purchase the PlayStation Vita, reports VideoGamer. This statement should come as no surprise, because it's pretty much the type of thing Sony would say.

"Our mission, our vision, is that we now have a portable gaming system that is going to be massively appealing to gamers–initially core gamers, but then a wider sense of gamers going forward," said Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Senior Vice President Michael Denny. "We have to concentrate on our plans and make sure we supply the right games, the right experience, the right software, and the right social connectivity for the platform. I believe if you care about games, you're going to want a Vita."

Denny didn't call out any other portable consoles by name, but he did mention that the Vita was heading into the handheld market ready to compete. He mentioned the Vita's purpose as a gaming device, stating that it would provide a "true next-gen" experience. According to Denny, the Vita is developed with gamers and game developers in mind, which is something I can certainly appreciate.

I'm really looking forward to the Vita's launch. I may not pick one up right from the get-go, but I'm interested to see what Sony does with its next portable platform. We'll certainly find out exactly how developers and gamers feel about the Vita when it releases early next year.
