Sony says goodbye to The Last Guardian

This is it folks, Sony has officially dropped The Last Guardian — Well, at least they dropped the name. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has revealed that Sony has allowed the trademark on The Last Guardian to expire into the abyss of nothingness.

A sad day.

The last that we heard about The Last Guardian (RIP) was when the game creator Fumito Ueda sat down for an interview with Dengeki PlayStation. Ueda mentioned that the game had been through "hardships" and took an "unforeseen amount of time required than what was originally thought." The game was originally announced in 2009, so yeah, you could say it tool a little bit longer than intended. Just a little bit.

Ueda did mention that the game was "making progress under completely new conditions," during the same interview.

Now, with that statement we can deduce that Sony's abandoning of the trademark means it's going to be reborn under a new title like a phoenix rising from the ashes in a burst of fire and light… the way that this game was always meant to be.

Let's be honest here, the pessimist in me cannot be denied, this game is never releasing.

Here's an artistic rendition of my internal suffering:

That's enough internet for today, it's time to go cry.
