Sony sells studio behind PlanetSide 2, H1Z1 and more

Sony has sold Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), the studio (and publisher) that brought us EverQuest, PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online, (most recently) H1Z1 and has hosted a slew of other titles. The company that has acquired SOE is an investment firm that specializes in technology, media and entertainment focused companies called Columbus Nova.

The sale has already gone through, so, as of the announcement SOE will operate as an independent game development studio, under the new name Daybreak Game Company.

How will this effect you? It won't really. Every that SOE supported and developed will continue on their current path, but with a bonus – Daybreak will be able to pull on more resources. These resources will allow the team to develop multi-platform games (PlayStation, Xbox and PC). Because of the new resources "new exciting developments" will be headed to Daybreak's current titles – they are embracing the multi-platform world.

Daybreak will be headed by John Smedley, who had some thoughts on the acquisition:

"We are excited to join Columbus Nova's impressive roster of companies, they have a proven track record in similar and related industries and we are eager to move forward to see how we can push the boundaries of online gaming. We will continue to focus on delivering exceptional games to players around the world, as well as bringing our portfolio to new platforms, fully embracing the multi-platform world in which we all live."

What SOE/Daybreak games do you want to see go multi-platform?
