Sony teases LittleBigPlanet announcement for Gamescom

The big announcement regarding LittleBigPlanet today wasn't the new installment we were all hoping for, but rather a competition to help promote the upcoming release of Tearaway on the PlayStation Vita; however, hope is not all lost as Sony Europe today tweeted an image of Sackboy with the Gamescom logo along with the following message: "A week to go until Gamescom! This little fella is excited, are you? #PlayStationGC"

The LittleBigPlanet twitter also added, "We love each and everyone of you for your enthusiasm and passion for LBP but sadly we think you may have jumped the sack-gun on this occasion!"

Having jumped the gun, I think now all eyes are on Gamescom where it's fully expected that a new LittleBigPlanet game will be announced for the PS4. It's worth noting that Media Molecule is working on a currently unannounced game, but that the studio allegedly handed off LittleBigPlanet 3 development to Sumo Digital, the studio behind Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Hopefully, these uncertainties will all be cleared up at Gamescom where Sony promises a focus on PS4 games and Vita as well.

Gamescom will take place in Cologne, Germany from August 21 through August 25.
