Sony VP says upcoming God of War will be the most brutal in the series

While speaking at the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas, Asad Qizilbash, Sony's VP of Marketing, told the audience that God of War will be the most brutal game in the series that players have ever played. In the video below, via Twitch, you can see Asad talk (at the 5:36 mark) about the game and studio.

Qizilbash goes on to boast about the Sony Santa Monica, the team tasked to bring God of War back to life, in which he says the team has the game in "the right place" and he believes people will be "blown away." Asad says that previous games in the series were primarily all corridors and compares the new game to a bus ride, in which players will be taken around where they need to go, but will also be dropped off and allowed to explore this new world.

For players who were worried that Kratos' son, Atreyus, would be a simple "escort" function, relax, the character has a lot more to do and even has his own button o the controller. He won't just be a tag-a-long mechanic. The combat has also changed, the old one vs many is gone as battles will now be more one vs one or one vs two to make the combat more personal.

Lastly, Sony Santa Monica wants players to actually feel for Kratos during key or quiet moments, unlike previous games, where players were only shown a "badass" version.

God of War is due in early 2018 exclusively for PlayStation 4 (and Pro).
