In celebration of the original PlayStation’s 20th anniversary, Sony will soon invite PlayStation fans to “officially name the best PlayStation game of all time,” Sony President Shawn Layden today announced on the PlayStation Blog.
The voting process has not yet been detailed, nor has an exact date been given. However, Layden did add that the election isn’t the only incoming fan activity: a PlayStation trivia quiz and video unboxing of the 20-year-old system will also be shown in the coming weeks.
More topically, a 20th Anniversary SHAREfactory theme will be available free of charge through today on the North American PlayStation Store. The theme comes on the heels of an ongoing anniversary sale which has discounted over 100 games.
The PlayStation (One) first launched in North America on September 9, 1995, roughly nine months after its Japanese launch on December 3, 1994. The PlayStation name has built a roster of thousands of games since, so the vote for the best will surely be a long one. After all, everything from The Last of Us and Crash Bandicoot to Spyro the Dragon and God of War is eligible. Best buckle up.
