At a recent Gamestop investors meeting, Sony announced they'd be presenting the new Playstation VR in stores across the country, allowing potential consumers to try the headset before its release.
The news came from Sony Interactive Entertainment Vice President of Marketing, John Koller. The PSVR will be the largest marketed virtual reality system in comparison with others such as the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, which have only been available to demo so far at conventions and trade shows. Come June, Gamestop will be field testing 500,000 units in its stores, allowing fans to get a genuine feel for how the system will play before its release in October. Koller had this to say:
"We need people to pick this up and play it. We need them to be transported. You have to be able to go into a GameStop and be able to try this. We have an ascendant technology, but you have to be able to get your hands on it, that's the thing. The ability to effect trials and get people to experience this is absolutely crucial. [Giving] trials is unequivocally the best thing we can do for the technology and the platform."
The PSVR boasts an easy to use "plug-and-play" set-up as well as upwards of 50 games to be made available with the system starting with its release and continuing on through the holiday season. As an added incentive, Gamestop will be offering 30% additional trade-in credit towards a Playstation VR once its made available.
