ARK: Survival Evolved is arguably the most successful Early Access game there is, and for many gamers, they have already put in enough time into the game to make their initial investment feel like chump change (ARK retails for $30). However, that is apparently not good enough for Sony, as according to a Forum post on SurviveTheArk.com, Studio Wildcard has revealed that getting ARK onto the PS4 is "currently up to Sony."
Here's the excerpt:
"As for the PS4 Release of ARK: Survival Evolved, it is currently up to Sony. We’ve been informed that we can’t release the game on this platform until it has been finished. We would like nothing more than to make ARK available on PS4 as soon as possible, as we already have an awesome PS4 version of the game running internally. If you would like to see it sooner, please let Sony know, as it’s unfortunately not our decision."
It's a bit odd that Sony wouldn't want a game like ARK in their catalog, especially given the financial success it has enjoyed. However, that's not to say that there isn't cause to pause. Positive reviews for the game on Steam aren't exactly overwhelming, as it currently sits at a total 73% overall with only 67% positive recently. Players report game bugs and balance issues being ARK's biggest failings at this point, though to be fair no one is questioning how hard Studio Wildcard is working on the game.
It's a bit of a slippery slope as you can see both sides of the coin. Sony may only want games that are fully ready to avoid the negative PR storms that can come with bad releases, but on the other hand, despite its faults, ARK: Survival Evolved remains one of the most sought after games on any platform and retails for half price.
Just to be clear, this does not mean that ARK: Survival Evolved will never come to PS4, it just means that Sony doesn't want an Early Access version of the game.
