Sony won’t confirm PS4 pre-loading

If the PlayStation 4 receives an update in April that enables game pre-loading, Sony isn't letting on in the slightest. Speaking with Polygon today, a Sony rep would not confirm the feature, which was hinted at by inFamous: Second Son developer Sucker Punch last week.

"No preload on PS4 until April and for North America," Sucker Punch said last week in response to fans asking about pre-loading Second Son.

The Sony rep didn't actually deny pre-loading coming to the system, but wouldn't confirm its arrival next month either, only saying that it's being "considered."

"We know that it is the feature you've been asking for and we are considering it accordingly," said the rep. "We do not have specific details to announce at this point in time, but stay tuned for upcoming announcements about system updates and added features."

Pre-loading is currently available on the PS3 and is used prominently on Steam for PC. It allows users to digitally purchase a game and pre-download/install it ahead of its official launch. The game remains unplayable prior to launch, but once it officially releases it is instantly unlocked, allowing players immediate access.

Meanwhile, Sony announced last week a PS4 system update, due for release "in the coming weeks," that will grant you the ability to disable HDCP and allow you to capture gameplay via HDMI. The update will also add a "rich video editor" tool that allows you to personalize your video clips. Looking even further down the line, future updates will allow you to archive your Twitch streams and dim your DualShock 4 light bar.
