The creative minds behind South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have just signed a new contract with Comedy Central that renews South Park for three more seasons. That'll take the highly successful show to its 23rd season and 304th episode. That will make South Park cable's longest-running scripted primetime series, Comedy Central said.
“Nearly two decades later, South Park today remains as important and influential as any series on any platform and has become one of the most recognizable brands to ever come out of television,” said Doug Herzog, President, Viacom Music & Entertainment Group in a press release. “Through South Park Digital Studios we will continue to aggressively expand the reach of the South Park brand by pursuing additional extensions and licensing opportunities worldwide.”
“We love working for Doug and with everyone at Comedy Central. They’ve given us an insane level of artistic and creative freedom for almost 20 years. They walk the walk," added show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Another separate deal was made which allows Hulu to own streaming rights to South Park, which currently allows them to stream the latest episodes.
On a related note, the comedic duo appeared on stage at Ubisoft's E3 press conference, revealing a brand new South Park game — South Park: The Factured but Whole. A trailer for the game can be seen above.
