During an earnings call today, Ubisoft announced that they will be delaying South Park: The Fractured but Whole into the next fiscal year.
Ubisoft's fiscal year runs from April 1st, 2017 to March 31st, 2018, which means that the earliest we could see the game is in April. The Fractured but Whole was originally set to be released in 2016, but a delay in September of last year revealed the game would instead release in early 2017. The delay was initially noted by some outlets, like MyXboxRadio who noticed a change in the fine print concerning the game's release.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole sets up Cartman and the crew as superheroes. We control The Stick of Truth's "new kid" who has now been accepted into the group. All pre-orders of The Fractured but Whole come with The Stick of Truth free, so it's a good way to catch up on the fun before jumping into the second game. The delay is more for the quantity of what the game entails rather than technical aspects, so you shouldn't be too worried.
A Ubisoft spokesperson offered this comment on the delay to MyXboxRadio earlier this week:
"Good catch, was waiting to see when someone would ask this. The thing is The Fractured but Whole is a lot bigger than Stick of Truth, like a lot. There's a whole lot more involved. I have heard they are making sure everything is good to go at launch but underestimated how long it would take. It's just fine tuning stuff and finishing up at this point nothing too worrisome, but it's not going to be ready by March. Probably soon after though".
This was the second delay of The Fractured but Whole as it was originally set to release in early December. We'll update you as we hear more from Ubisoft. When it does release, it will do so on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
