Like a shot to the sack, Ubisoft revealed a new release date for South Park: The Stick of Truth. The highly anticipated RPG, which has been on quite a development roller coaster, will no longer be releasing this December. Rather, the publisher today confirmed it will be available on March 4, 2014.
“Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted,” Ubisoft North America’s president Laurent Detoc explained. “It’s been such a major overhaul to get to the point where we are that we couldn’t let it go, even if that meant missing December.”
To help ease our pain, Ubisoft has released a new gameplay video. The new video shows the gang of boys on a quest to the Inn of the Giggling Donkey, an infamous tavern that harbors the scum of all the realm. It also gives us a nice look at some of the in-game abilities at your disposal, inventory management and classic South Park humor that awaits.
"There, it is believed the famed Bard guards the hallowed stick of truth. In order to defeat the Bard's followers, you'll have to throw everything you have at the enemy, including dodge balls and farts," the teaser reads. "Poison your foes with your flatulence, and refill your mana with burritos."
South Park: The Stick of Truth is a turn-based live-action role-playing game from Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park. While it's being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the dynamic duo have had a heavy hand in its production.
“We always wanted the game to feel like you’re actually in an episode of South Park,” Stone and Parker said. “Getting the game up to the crappy standards of the show has been a real challenge and we’re excited to say it’s taken way longer than we thought it would.”
So now South Park: The Stick of Truth will be released on March 4, 2014 (barring any more delays) for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. With all the troubles the studio is apparently running into, I wouldn't count on a next-gen version.
