Game studio Yager has announced their new game, The Cycle. The game is a multiplayer first-person shooter with cooperative and competitive gameplay elements. Besides other humans, players can also take on quests to fulfil during matches. The Cycle is planned for a PC release as of now but Yager is planning console versions for the future. There’s no release date but a closed alpha is starting next month.
Yager Development, the independent game studio from Berlin, Germany has unveiled their new project to the public. Following the trend of popular online games, their new title The Cycle is going to be an online multiplayer game with a couple twists. First of all, no, The Cycle is not aiming to become yet another game aiming for the battle royale genre. With that out of the way, Yager is actually planning to do some pretty innovative things with The Cycle.
While The Cycle sounds not that different to other competitive online shooters, Yager is promising a mix of Co-Op and competitive gameplay among players, during ~20mins matches. By forging temporary alliances with other players and taking on various quests by the many factions in the sci-fi universe. Set on an alien planet with rich wildlife and a vast open-world, players will not only have to be aware of other players but also search for minerals, hunting rare animals and more.
The Cycle is still a fairly recent project the devs at Yager have been working on since early this year but, they plan to have a closed alpha this August. Applications for this closed alpha event are currently open and you can try to get in on the early fun through the game’s website.
Yager is best known for their third-person shooter Spec Ops: The Line, which came out for last generation consoles in 2012. While the gameplay itself being a pretty standard TPS, it was the narrative and play on tropes in the popular military shooter genre, subverting ideas of good and bad, right and wrong. So, for fans of that kind of work Yager has made a name for themselves, The Cycle doesn’t seem to offer much. Yager hasn’t delved into a pure singleplayer game as well, with their last title Dreadnought being a full-fledged tactical action game.
