Spec Ops: The Line release date announced, pre-order incentives unveiled

Flying somewhat under the radar, Spec Ops: The Line is surprising many with stunning graphics and an eerie story that takes place in Dubai. 2K Games is continuing to add fuel to the fire, announcing a June 26 release date in North America and June 29 elsewhere.

In addition to cementing a date, 2K also announced their first pre-order incentives, available through the title's "Premium Edition."  According to the publisher, the edition will be a "free upgrade" to all who pre-order, and include the following:

  • Double XP for the first week.
  • An AK-47 at Rank 1
  • The Officer Class at Rank 1
  • The FUBAR Pack (appearance items)

It'll be quite interesting to see how Spec Ops: The Line does given its small marketing campaign. We haven't seen a shooter outside of the fall season in quite some time, which could play into the hands of 2K perfectly if the title does indeed succeed. Heck, a shooter other than Battlefield and Call of Duty may cure our shooterphobia: The fear of regular, non-innovative shooters.
