When Derek Yu and Mossmouth first unveiled that Spelunky 2 was coming out for PlayStation 4 September 14th, many users on the PC were getting extremely anxious. The indie developer didn’t state the release date for the PC version with only a tentative “coming soon”.
In an age of aggressive timed exclusivity deals – especially on PC – some were even getting desperate whether Sony snagged the promising roguelite for an extended period on their ecosystem.
Now, we know better with the official release date announcement being later this month. Just two weeks after the PlayStation 4 launch to be precise. Very welcome news for the PC crowd who has been clamoring for a sequel for over seven years now.
And going by the information we learned about Spelunky 2, the wait ought to be really worth the wait. Full online support, extended PvP modes, and tons of gameplay additions and enhancements leave the original, which is a bonafide classic on its own, in the dust.
Well, on paper that is. We can’t wait to play Spelunky 2 for ourselves to explore the dangerous world and uncover the many mysteries and secrets it holds.
